What is Alopecia Areata Treatment?
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition. The immune system targets hair follicles, causing round or oval bald patches, usually on the scalp, beard or eyebrows. The skin in the patch often looks smooth and normal. It can affect anyone at any age, and stress, illness or a family history may play a part. The follicles are usually not destroyed, so hair can regrow.
At Paradise Wellness, a doctor first confirms the diagnosis and rules out other causes, such as fungal infection, scarring hair loss or hair pulling. Blood tests may be suggested to check thyroid and other health factors. Treatment depends on the size and number of patches and how long they have been present. Options include steroid injections into the patch, prescription creams or lotions, and other doctor-prescribed treatments. Supportive scalp care may be added where suitable.
Please know the honest limits. Regrowth varies a great deal. Some patches regrow on their own; others take months; some return later. Widespread or total hair loss is harder to treat and may need referral for specialist medical care. Treatment helps regrowth but does not cure the underlying tendency. We also understand that patchy hair loss can be upsetting, and we take time to explain your options.
How it works
- 01
Medical assessment
The doctor examines the scalp and hair, takes your history and may use a scalp magnifier. Blood tests may be suggested.
- 02
Treatment plan
Based on the pattern and extent of hair loss, the doctor recommends injections, topical treatments or a combination.
- 03
In-clinic treatment
If suitable, small amounts of steroid are injected into the patch with a fine needle. It feels like quick pinches.
- 04
Follow-up
Regrowth and side effects are checked every few weeks, and the plan is adjusted to your response.

Alopecia Areata Treatment FAQs
Will my hair grow back?
Often, yes, because the hair follicles are usually not destroyed. But regrowth varies a great deal. Some patches regrow on their own, some take months, and some return later. The doctor will explain what to expect in your case.
What causes alopecia areata?
It is an autoimmune condition, where the immune system targets hair follicles. Genetics, stress and other autoimmune conditions, such as thyroid disease, may be linked. It is not contagious.
Are steroid injections safe?
When given by a doctor in small doses into the patch, they are commonly used. Side effects can include mild pain and small temporary dents in the skin. The doctor will check whether they suit you.
Can PRP or GFC help?
They are not first-line treatments for alopecia areata. The doctor may consider supportive options in some cases, but medical treatment comes first. Ask at your consultation.
Is this the same as normal hair fall?
No. Alopecia areata causes distinct bald patches, while common hair fall and pattern hair loss cause thinning. The causes and treatments are different, so a correct diagnosis matters.
How much does alopecia areata treatment cost?
It depends on the extent of hair loss and the treatments needed. The doctor confirms the cost at your free consultation.
