Before your appointment
- Wash your hair on the day, and skip gels, oils and sprays
- Eat a normal meal and drink plenty of water
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
- If your doctor agrees, pause aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and vitamin E for a few days
- Avoid hair colour or chemical treatments in the week before
After your treatment, step by step
First 12–24 hours
Do- Leave the scalp alone until the time your doctor advises before washing (often the next day)
- Take paracetamol for soreness if needed and safe for you
Avoid- Touching or scratching the scalp
- Tight caps, helmets and headbands
- Hair oils, gels and sprays
Days 1–3
Do- Wash with a mild shampoo and lukewarm water
Avoid- Gym, heavy sweating, swimming and sauna for 48 hours
- Hair colour, straightening or other chemical treatments for 1 week
Over the course
Do- Keep sessions on schedule, usually monthly at first
- Follow any home treatment your doctor prescribed
Avoid- Judging results too early — change is gradual over months

Normal, and settles by itself
- Scalp tenderness and a mild headache on the day
- Slight redness and small marks at injection points
- Mild swelling that can reach the forehead for 1–2 days
Call your clinic if you notice
- Increasing pain, redness or swelling after day 2
- Pus or fever
- A severe headache
Aftercare questions
When can I wash my hair after PRP?
Usually the next day, with a mild shampoo and lukewarm water, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
When will I see results from hair PRP or GFC?
Many people notice less shedding after a few sessions. New growth takes longer, typically several months. Individual results vary.
