What is Dimple Creation?
Dimple creation, also called dimpleplasty, is a minor procedure that forms a small dimple in one or both cheeks. It is performed by a qualified doctor under local anaesthesia after a careful assessment. Working from inside the mouth, a small amount of tissue is removed and a stitch links the inner cheek to the underside of the skin, so a dimple appears when you smile.
The dimple is usually visible even at rest at first, while swelling settles. Over the following weeks it softens and becomes more noticeable mainly when you smile. Swelling and tenderness are common for one to two weeks. The final look takes time and varies between people. This is a permanent change and is not easy to reverse, so it needs careful thought.
Be aware of the honest risks: the two sides may not match exactly, the dimple may be shallower or deeper than hoped, and rarely it may fade or need revision. Infection can occur. People with a tendency to keloids, very thin or very full cheeks, or active mouth or gum problems may not be suitable. Your doctor will mark the position with you during the consultation before deciding.
