What is Permanent Makeup (Brows & Lips)?
Permanent makeup is a form of cosmetic tattooing. Fine pigment is placed in the upper layer of the skin to add shape and colour to the brows or lips. Despite the name, it is semi-permanent: the colour softens and fades over about one to three years, depending on your skin type, sun exposure and aftercare. Oily skin and regular sun tend to fade it faster.
For brows we offer microblading, which uses a fine hand tool to draw hair-like strokes, and a softer powder or shaded finish for oily skin or a more filled-in look. For lips, lip blush adds soft colour and evens out the lip line, which can help with uneven or darker lip tone. Shape and shade are mapped and agreed with you before any pigment goes in, and chosen to suit your skin tone and features.
Every client has a consultation and a patch test first. The colour looks darker for the first week or two, then settles as the skin heals, and a touch-up session a few weeks later fills any patchy areas. Permanent makeup does not regrow hair; if brows are very sparse because of hair loss, your doctor may first suggest a medical check or an eyebrow transplant. It also takes time to remove, so we keep shapes natural.

Consultation and patch test
We discuss the look you want, check your health and skin, and do a patch test with the pigment at least a few days before treatment.

Mapping shape and choosing shade
Your brows or lip line are measured and drawn on, then adjusted with you until you are happy. Pigment shade is matched to your skin tone and hair colour.

Numbing
A numbing cream is applied to the area to keep you comfortable before and during the treatment.

Pigment application
Pigment is placed in fine strokes (microblading), soft shading (powder brows) or layers of colour (lip blush). You may feel scratching or light pressure.

Touch-up after healing
About 4-8 weeks later you return for a touch-up to perfect the shape and fill any patches as the skin settles.

How to prepare
- Avoid alcohol, aspirin and fish-oil supplements for 24-48 hours, if safe to stop
- Do not tint, wax or thread the brows for a week before
- Avoid sun tanning and retinoid creams on the area for a week
- For lips, keep them moisturised in the days before

Aftercare
- Keep the area clean and apply only the aftercare balm you are given
- Do not pick or scratch flaking skin; let it come away by itself

Normal, and settles quickly

Is permanent makeup really permanent?
Not completely. It is semi-permanent and usually fades over about one to three years. Some pigment can stay longer as a faint shade, so we keep shapes and colours natural. A colour boost every year or so keeps it looking fresh.
What is the difference between microblading and powder brows?
Microblading draws fine, hair-like strokes and suits normal to dry skin and a natural look. Powder brows give a soft, shaded finish and often last better on oily skin. Some people have a mix of both. We advise you at consultation.
Does lip blush change my lip colour completely?
It adds a soft tint and can even out an uneven or darker lip tone, but it is not lipstick. The result looks like a natural flush of colour. You can still wear lipstick on top.
Is the treatment painful?
A numbing cream is used, so most people feel scratching or pressure rather than pain. Lips are usually more sensitive than brows.
Can permanent makeup be removed if I do not like it?
Pigment can be lightened with laser treatment, such as Q-switch laser, but this takes several sessions and is not always complete. That is why shape and shade are agreed carefully before we start.
