What is Scalp Micropigmentation?
Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a form of cosmetic tattooing. Very fine dots of pigment are placed in the upper layers of the scalp skin to look like tiny hair follicles or short stubble. It can create the look of a closely shaved head, soften the contrast in thinning areas, or help hide scars from surgery or a past hair transplant.
It is important to be clear: scalp micropigmentation does not grow hair and does not treat the cause of hair loss. It is a visual camouflage. It usually suits people who are happy to keep their hair very short, or who want thinning areas to look denser under longer hair. Most people need two to three sessions to build up a natural, layered look.
The pigment fades slowly over the years, especially with sun exposure, so occasional top-up sessions are needed. As it is a type of tattoo, it can be difficult to remove fully if you change your mind. If you want real hair regrowth, your doctor may suggest PRP, GFC, hair mesotherapy, medical treatment or a hair transplant instead. Results vary, and a patch test may be advised.

Preparation
The scalp is cleaned. For a shaved look, hair is clipped very short. A numbing cream may be used if suitable.

Pigment placement
A fine needle places tiny dots of pigment in layers to look like natural follicles. This is done slowly and evenly.

Building up
Further sessions, usually a week or more apart, add depth and fill gaps so the result looks natural.

No. It is a cosmetic tattoo that creates the look of hair follicles. It does not grow hair or stop hair loss. If you want regrowth, ask your doctor about medical treatment, PRP, GFC or a hair transplant.
How long does it last?

Will it look fake?
