Fat Dissolving Injections Aftercare
Fat dissolving injections break down small pockets of stubborn fat, such as under the chin. Swelling is the main side effect and is part of the treatment working.
Your own doctor’s instructions always come first. If anything here is different from what you were told at the clinic, follow your doctor and ask us if you are unsure.

Before your appointment
- Avoid blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oil for 1 week if your doctor agrees
- Avoid alcohol for 2 days before
- Plan for visible swelling for a few days, especially under the chin
After your treatment, step by step
First 48 hours
Do- Use a cool compress for swelling
- Drink plenty of water
- Wear the compression garment if advised
Avoid- Massaging the area unless advised
- Alcohol
- Hot showers, sauna and gym
Days 3–14
Do- Keep moving and stay hydrated
- Light walking is fine
Avoid- Intense exercise until swelling settles
- Other treatments on the area
Between sessions
Do- Wait the advised gap, usually 4–6 weeks
- Keep a stable weight

Normal, and settles by itself
- Swelling for 3–7 days, sometimes longer under the chin
- Tenderness, warmth and mild burning

- Blisters, crusting or oozing that keeps spreading
- Pain, swelling or redness that gets worse after 48 hours
- Pus, warmth or fever
- New dark or light patches on the treated skin
- Trouble swallowing or a lopsided smile
Aftercare questions
How long does the swelling last?
Usually 3–7 days. Under the chin it can last up to 2 weeks.
When will I see results?
Results build over 4–6 weeks. Most people need 2–4 sessions.
Is the fat gone for good?
Treated fat cells are cleared, but weight gain can still enlarge the remaining fat cells.
