IV Drips Aftercare
IV drips are given after a medical screening. Aftercare is mainly about the small site where the cannula went in, and knowing which rare symptoms need attention.

Get emergency help straight away if you have
- Difficulty breathing or chest tightness
- Swelling of the lips, face or throat
- Fainting or feeling very unwell

Before your appointment
- Eat a light meal and drink water beforehand
- Tell us about all medicines, supplements, allergies, pregnancy and medical conditions
- Wear a top with sleeves that roll up easily
After your treatment, step by step
Straight after
Do- Press on the cotton pad for 1–2 minutes
- Keep the plaster on for a few hours
Avoid- Heavy lifting with that arm for the rest of the day
Rest of the day
Do- Drink water and eat normally
- Continue your usual activities if you feel well
Avoid- Strenuous exercise if you feel light-headed

Normal, and settles by itself
- A small bruise or tenderness where the cannula was
- A brief metallic taste or warm feeling during some drips
Call your clinic if you notice
- Pain, redness, swelling or a hard line along the vein
- Fever
- An itchy rash

How often can I have an IV drip?
That depends on the drip and your health. Your doctor sets the frequency after your screening.
